2005 Chrysler Crossfire Review
This two-seater blends American styling with engineering from Chrysler's parent-company Mercedes-Benz. With an ample supply of 2005 versions still available, Chrysler has skipped the 2006 model year for Crossfire, but promises there will be a 2007 version. Crossfire comes as a hatchback coupe and as a convertible with a power soft top and heated glass rear window. Both body styles offer base, Limited, and SRT6 models. All have a Mercedes V6. Base and Limited have 215 hp. SRT6 is supercharged for 330 hp. Base and Limited come with a 6-speed manual transmission. A 5-speed automatic with manual shift gate is standard on the SRT6 and optional on the others. SRT6s also have a sport suspension and unique interior and exterior trim. ABS, traction/antiskid control, and side airbags are standard on all Crossfires. Curtain side airbags are unavailable. A plug-in air compressor and a can of tire sealant are provided instead of a spare tire. Limited and SRT6 come with leather upholstery and are available with a navigation system.

Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 17 classes based on size, price, and market position. Offering more power and style than typical Sporty/Performance vehicles, Premium Sporty/Performance Cars usually cost much more and have more comfort and convenience equipment. Two-passenger convertibles and 4-seat coupes rule the roost in this class.

Our Best Buy is the Chevrolet Corvette. Our Recommended picks include the BMW Z4, Chrysler Crossfire, and Mercedes-Benz CLK.
News
As noted, Crossfire is based on the original Mercedes-Benz SLK, which has lately been replaced. That helps explain why Crossfire will not be replaced with a new design, or so say Chrysler Group officials. What they can't or won't say is how long they will keep it around. We'd give it two more years, maybe three, assuming sales don't tank sooner.
