Optioned to around $43,000, a Z4 2.6i outfitted with the Sport Package, leather upholstery, and a few other non-essential amenities is not the best value in a 2-seat BMW. But a 2.5i with, say, just heated seats and power top, would list for under $36,000. Discounts might get it down to $32,000 or so. Still a lot of money for a toy, but this is a car that can be used year round, and rewards with solid construction and materials, serious engineering, sweet moves and good resale value. The styling is polarizing, but the dead-on rear view is the only perspective that's anything less than pleasing. Overall, it's an interesting, exotic design.

The base 2.5-liter is spirited and fun. The base MSRP was around $34,000 for this car, but a long list of frivolous options brought the price well over $43,000. That is double the price of a Miata -- making this Z4 a not-so-good per dollar value. But the Z4 is more refined, and has impeccable handling. A justified recommended for someone with a disposable income.

The Z4 is an absolute blast to drive and looks like no other car on the road. It can be used as a daily driver in warmer climates and would be a wonderful "weekend car." However, BMW needs a better handle on pricing. Our tester cost more than $43,000. I'd prefer a base model with limited options at about $36,000. Still, that's a lot of money when you consider that the Miata and Solstice can be had for about $25,000.
