2004 Volvo V70/XC70: Overview

A 300-hp high-performance model highlights 2004 changes for Volvo's near-luxury station wagons. All V70 and XC70 models have an inline 5-cyl engine, and all but the 168-hp base 2.4 model are turbocharged. The V70 2.5T models and the XC70 have 208 hp. The T5 has 247 hp. The new V70 R has 300. The 2.4, 2.5T, and T5 have front-wheel drive. The 2.5T AWD, XC70, and V70 R have all-wheel drive. The XC70 is distinguished by its raised suspension and SUV-flavored trim. The 2.4 and T5 come with a 5-speed manual transmission, the R with a 6-speed manual. A 5-speed automatic is optional on those models and standard elsewhere. The R's suspension is driver-adjustable for ride and handling. Traction control and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard on all models. An antiskid system is standard on the T5 and R, optional on the others. All models come with front side airbags and head-protecting curtain side airbags. Dual integrated rear child seats, a rear-facing 3rd-row seat, navigation system, and Volvo's On-Call Plus assistance system are optional. New for 2004 is a Special Titanium Package for the 2.5T that includes specific equipment and a silver/gray color scheme. Also, the standard remote locking system gets an integrated key transmitter, and cabin appearance is revised with charcoal-colored trim and watch-bezel-style instrument surrounds.
