Vehicle Highlights

Midyear introduction of a new high-performance model is the only 2004 change of note to Toyota's larger subcompact sedan. Corolla lends its platform to the company's Matrix wagon and the similar Pontiac Vibe. Corolla offers CE, sporty S, and top-line LE models. Due during summer 2004 is the high-performance XRS. All models use a 1.8-liter 4-cyl engine. In the CE, S, and LE it produces 130 hp and comes with 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. In the new XRS it makes 170 hp and comes only with 6-speed manual. ABS and front side airbags are available, but curtain side airbags are not. All Corollas include air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, split folding rear seat, power mirrors, and CD player. The S adds aero body trim and fog lights. The XRS will add sport suspension, 16-inch wheels vs. 15s, and specific interior and exterior trim. Leather upholstery is optional on the LE.
