Trouble Spots
Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.
Engine misfire: Some early-build vehicles with either the 1.4L or 1.6L engine developed a misfire due to inadequate contact between the valves and seats, requiring valves be replaced. (2004)
Fuel gauge: The engine may not start or may stall because the tank is empty yet the gauge shows fuel remaining, or the fuel gauge will not show full after refilling due to sulfur corrosion of the fuel level sender and if after treating with Fuel System Cleaner PLUS the problem remains, the sender may need to be replaced. (2004-06)
Oil leak: Oil leaks from the drain plug because the original equipment copper washer gets deformed, Replacements are improved. (2004-05)
Rear axle noise: Noise from the rear is commonly due to bad wheel bearing(s), which must be replaced along with their seals. (2004-05)

The dollar amount includes the cost of the part(s) and labor (based on $50 per hour) for the typical repair without extras or add-ons. 2004 Aveo: Rear seatbelt in some cars could become twisted.
2007 Aveo w/1.6-liter engine: During an NCAP severe frontal crash test, the fuel line in the engine compartment developed a fracture and caused four short circuits in the fuse block, which allowed the fuel pump to continue running and fuel leaked onto the ground. Dealers will replace the fuse block and install a new section of fuel line that has been redesigned free of charge.
