Vehicle Highlights
Vibe returns for 2004 with a line of dealer-installed appearance and performance accessories. Pontiac's crossover wagon shares a basic design with Toyota's Matrix, which differs mainly in styling and features. Both use the same Toyota-sourced platform and 1.8-liter 4-cyl engines. The base-model Vibe comes with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. With front-wheel drive, it has 130 hp and a choice of 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic. With AWD, it has 123 hp and automatic transmission only. The sportier Vibe GT has 180 hp and comes only with front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission. AWD Vibes are not intended for off-roading and lack low-range gearing. ABS is optional on the base 2WD model and standard on other Vibes. GTs include rear disc brakes instead of drums. Front side airbags are optional; curtain side airbags aren't offered. Vibes have a swing-up tailgate with separate-opening window. Sixteen-inch wheels are standard, 17s are optional on 2WD Vibes. Among the newly available dealer-installed accessories is a supercharger for 2WD base models that boosts horsepower to 175. Vibe's performance and accommodations mirror those of comparably equipped Matrix models.
