2004 Pontiac Sunfire: Overview

A new low-priced model and minor trim changes mark the Sunfire for 2004. Pontiac's subcompact coupe returns with a standard 140-hp 4 cyl mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic. New for '04 is the 1SV model, which includes all the standard equipment of the base model--plus a CD player--for a lower price, but comes only with manual transmission and offers no options. The base model's standard level of equipment is called the 1SA Option Group. Option groups labeled 1SB and 1SC follow in ascending order of price and equipment. Automatic transmission is available only with the 1SB and 1SC groups and includes traction control.

Front side airbags are included in a Protection Package available on 1SB and 1SC models. The package includes OnStar assistance. The 1SC group includes a sport suspension and 16-inch alloy wheels; other models have 15-inch wheels. A CD player is standard except on 1SA. Satellite radio is included with 1SC, optional with 1SB. Standard on 1SC and not available on other models is a CD player that reads MP3-formatted discs.

Sunfire uses the same basic design as Chevrolet's Cavalier, which offers coupes and sedans. Performance and accommodations mirror those of comparably equipped Cavaliers.
