Special-trim Silhouettes help close the book on America's oldest automotive nameplate. GM discontinues the Oldsmobile brand at the end of the 2004 model year, and the last 500 vehicles of each Olds model are set to get Collector Edition embroidery, wheels, and badges. Silhouette comes in only one body length, equivalent to extended-length versions of its Chevrolet Venture and Pontiac Montana siblings. GL, GLS, and top-line Premiere Edition models are offered. All have a V6, automatic transmission, ABS, front side airbags, and load-leveling rear suspension. Silhouette is available with front-wheel drive or GM's Versatrak all-wheel drive that includes independent rear suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes. Traction control is standard on front-drive models. Power operation is available on one or both sliding side doors, depending on model. Front bucket seats and two 2nd-row bucket seats are standard. The 3-passenger 3rd row can be fitted with a bench seat that folds flush with a floor-mounted storage tray. OnStar assistance is standard. Premiere comes with rear DVD entertainment. Rear-obstacle detection is standard on GLS and Premiere, unavailable on GL. Silhouette's performance and accommodations mirror those of similarly equipped Ventures.
