Vehicle Highlights
Mercury's midsize sedans and wagons receive minor appearance changes for 2004. Sable's sedan gets a new rear fascia and taillights, and both body styles have a new grille and front fascia. GS and LS Premium models are offered. GS versions have a standard front bench seat for 6-passenger capacity. Front bucket seats are standard on the LS Premium and optional on GS. Both use a 3.0-liter V6 engine. The GS has 155 hp, the LS Premium 201. A 4-speed automatic is the sole transmission. Antilock brakes are a no-charge option for all Sables; wagons include rear disc brakes instead of drums. An available Secure Group bundles traction control with front side airbags. Power-adjustable foot pedals are standard on LS Premium, unavailable on GS. Sable shares its design with the Ford Taurus, and its performance and accommodations mirror those of like-equipped Taurus models.
