2004 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class: Overview

An appearance trim package joins the options list as the main 2004 change for the smaller of Mercedes' 2-seat convertibles. The SLK comes in three models, all with a metal hardtop that powers in and out of the trunk. The SLK230 uses a supercharged 4-cyl engine, the SLK320 a V6, the SLK32 a supercharged V6. The SLK32 has modifications to suspension, transmission, bodywork, and interior, all by Mercedes' AMG performance team. The SLK230 and SLK320 come with a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed automatic with manual shift gate. The SLK32 comes only with the automatic. All include antiskid/traction control, side airbags, and ABS. The SLK32 and Special Editions have 17-inch wheels that are optional on the other models in place of their standard 16s. Also standard is Mercedes' TeleAid assistance system and its BabySmart right-side airbag deactivation feature. Power seats and telescope steering wheel are optional for the SLK230, standard otherwise. The new special-edition package is available for the SLK230 and SLK320 and adds 17-inch wheels, Nappa leather sport seats and roll bar, exterior chrome accents, and body-colored grille. Also for '04, all SLKs are factory prewired to accept a newly optional dealer-installed satellite radio.
