Vehicle Highlights
This pioneer "crossover" SUV is redesigned for 2004, increasing in size, power, and features, but not in number of seats. Renamed RX 330, it continues as a 5-passenger wagon, now essentially an upscale version of the Highlander SUV from Lexus-parent Toyota. Both employ the platform of the Lexus ES 330/Toyota Camry sedans. Continued are front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive without low-range gearing. A V6 is again the only engine, but it grows to 3.3 liters from 3.0, adding 10 hp. A 5-speed automatic replaces a 4-speed as the sole transmission.
Against the RX 300, the 330 adds 4 inches of wheelbase and 5.9 inches of overall length. No 3rd-row seat is available. Antiskid/traction control and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard. Joining front side airbags are standard head-protecting curtain side airbags and a driver knee airbag. Other new standard features include a 40/20/40 split rear seat with slide and recline adjustments, a tire-pressure monitor, and 17-inch wheels vs. 16s. New options include 18-inch wheels, xenon headlamps, self-leveling air suspension with driver-selectable height settings, and adaptive cruise control designed to maintain a set following distance. Also newly available are a power liftgate, power tilt/telescopic steering column, rear DVD entertainment, rearview TV camera, voice-control navigation, and Lexus Link assistance service provided through OnStar. Steering-linked headlights and a multipanel sunroof with a larger opening than the regular sunroof are other new options.
