2004 Lexus LS 430: Overview

Minor styling revisions and new features mark the 2004 LS 430. Lexus' flagship sedan retains a 4.3-liter V8, but swaps a 5-speed automatic transmission for a 6-speed with manual shift gate. Antiskid/traction control remains standard. Euro-Tuned Suspension option combines firmer suspension with new 18-inch wheels to replace standard 17s. Standard driver and front-passenger knee airbags join head-protecting curtain side airbags and larger front torso side airbags. Also added are tire-pressure monitor, steering-linked headlights, and power rear sunshade. New options include heated/cooled rear seats and a rearview TV camera that uses the available navigation system's screen when backing up. Also newly optional is Lexus' SmartAccess keyless entry/starting system with pocket transmitter. Satellite radio is a new dealer-installed option. Added as a midyear option was Lexus' Pre-Collision Safety System that uses a grille-mounted radar sensor to "anticipate" a crash; if it does, it automatically tightens seatbelts and readies full braking power. Adaptive cruise control is included in a Custom Luxury Package. To that, an Ultra Luxury group adds self-adjusting air suspension, rear air conditioning, massaging rear seats, and other features. Also returning is available Lexus Link assistance system.
