Vehicle Highlights
New front and rear styling and a revised interior highlight Land Rover's entry-level SUV for 2004. Freelander is offered as a 4-dr wagon or 2-dr semiconvertible called the SE3. SE3 shares dimensions with the 4 dr, but is distinguished by removable roof panels over the front seats and a removable hardtop over the rear-seat/cargo area. Both body styles have a swing-out cargo door with a feature unique among compact SUVs: a power up/down rear window. A 174-hp V6 and 5-speed automatic transmission is the sole powertrain. All-wheel drive is standard; it doesn't have low-range gearing but includes traction control, and hill descent control. ABS is standard. Side airbags are unavailable. The 4 dr comes in SE and HSE models. The base S model is dropped. The SE3 comes in a single trim level. SE has 16-inch wheels; others have 17s. Added as standard on all for 2004 are roof rails and tinted windows. Cabin revisions include new instruments, controls, door panels, and seats. Land Rover is owned by Ford.
