ACCELERATION
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 5 | 5.2 |
V6 feels strong, running about 8.3 sec 0-60 mph. Low-end torque is quite good, though one test model had inconsistent reaction to pressure on accelerator pedal, tending to leap forward at low speed with just minor throttle application. Automatic transmission generally shifts smoothly and promptly.
FUEL ECONOMY
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 4 | 5.3 |
Test XG350Ls averaged 16.8-18.0 mpg in city/highway mix. 20.0 in mostly highway travel. Hyundai recommends regular-grade fuel.
RIDE QUALITY
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 7 | 6.2 |
Comfort-oriented suspension settings smooth out broken pavement with little harshness, though XG bounces and floats over rough pavement and dips in the road. Good highway stability even in gusty conditions.
STEERING/HANDLING/BRAKING
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 6 | 6.1 |
Body lean evident but not severe, though tires show only modest grip in fast turns, so nose will plow in aggressive driving. Stopping is stable with good brake-pedal feel.
QUIETNESS
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 7 | 5.8 |
Modest wind noise--though one test car's front-passenger window whistled in a strong highway crosswind. Tire roar noticeable, but XG350 is generally hushed. V6 emits a muted whine under full-throttle acceleration.
CONTROLS
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 7 | 6.4 |
Dashboard design and instrument cluster are straightforward with sensibly sized controls. Story here is impressive array of standard features, including automatic climate system, leather upholstery, and L model's heated front seats. Interior nicely trimmed with upscale-feeling materials.
ROOM/COMFORT/DRIVER SEATING (FRONT)
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 6 | 6 |
Lanky adults have fine leg space and good head room even beneath the available sunroof. Ordinary-looking seats prove comfortable--and come with power adjustment. Rear corners invisible to driver; good sight lines elsewhere.
ROOM/COMFORT (REAR)
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 5 | 4.5 |
Seat reasonably supportive. Space enough for two medium-size adults and maybe a small child in between, but head room modest for 6-footers, toe room snug, and narrow rear-door openings hinder egress.
CARGO ROOM
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 4 | 4.6 |
Trunklid hinges impinge on an otherwise roomy, flat-floor cargo hold. Split rear seatback folds easily but not quite flat, revealing a pass-through that's not full-width. Ample small-items cabin storage. Useful dual cupholders front and rear, along with handy bins.
VALUE WITHIN CLASS
| XG350L | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 5 | 6 |
The XG350 delivers perfectly adequate performance, comfort-oriented road manners, and good interior room. Yet it's not as solidly built as the leading midsize cars, specifically the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, or as sporty as the Nissan Altima. Its real lure is a long warranty and lots of features for the money. Balancing that is XG350's unproven track record and lower resale value.
