The Elantra GT hatchback tested here delivered some fun-to-drive character, decent mileage, and good cargo utility for less than $15,000 delivered. It may not have the resale value of a Honda Civic, but it is a worthwhile consideration in this class.

Hyundai's Elantra is a competent vehicle that gives up very little to more-expensive competition. Given the longer warranty and lower list price, this car should be a must see on every subcompact shopper's list.
