Vehicle Highlights
Wider availability of the power-folding 3rd-row seat is among 2004 changes to the smaller of Ford's two full-size SUVs. Expedition is larger than the Explorer, smaller than the Excursion. It comes with 3 rows of seats and is available with a front bench seat for 9-passenger capacity. It uses V8s of 4.6 and 5.4 liters, both teamed with automatic transmission. Expedition is available with rear-wheel drive or Ford's ControlTrac 4WD that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing. ABS and power-adjustable pedals are standard. Options include load-leveling suspension and Ford's AdvanceTrac antiskid/traction-control system. Also available are head-protecting curtain side airbags for the first two seating rows; they're designed to deploy in side collisions and in rollover accidents. The power 3rd-row seat is available for the first time on cloth-upholstered Expeditions. Also more widely available for '04 are a tire-pressure monitor, rear-obstacle detection, and rear DVD entertainment. Lincoln's Navigator is a luxury-oriented version of the Expedition.
