ACCELERATION
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 5 | 4.1 |
Powertrain is strong and responsive enough for confident passing and merging. Test Siennas ran 0-60 mph in just under 9.0 sec.
FUEL ECONOMY
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 5 | 4 |
The 3.0-liter V6 in our extended-use 2000 Sienna was rated at 194 hp and averaged 19.4 mpg over 9100 mi. that included lots of highway driving. The current 210-hp engine rates identical EPA city/highway economy estimates, so expect it to average about the same. Toyota recommends premium fuel.
RIDE QUALITY
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 6 | 5.5 |
Some impact harshness over sharp bumps, but comfortable overall. Minimal float or wallow over high-speed dips.
STEERING/HANDLING/BRAKING
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 4 | 4.3 |
Hard cornering induces unwanted front-end plowing but only moderate body lean. Mild steering-wheel tug in hard takeoffs argues for the optional antiskid/traction control. Braking swift and stable.
QUIETNESS
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 5 | 5 |
Suffers more wind rush than some cars, but overall noise levels subdued, making for relaxed highway travel.
CONTROLS
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 6.1 |
Clear and convenient save a low-set audio unit. Available power rear quarter windows operate together, not separately, which slightly limits their usefulness. Rear headrests, middle roof posts impede driver vision some.
ROOM/COMFORT/DRIVER SEATING (FRONT)
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 6 |
Ample room, but some testers find the seats too soft for long-haul comfort. Low step-in affords easy entry/exit. Column-mounted shift lever allows full front-to-rear walk-through.
ROOM/COMFORT (REAR)
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 8 | 6.9 |
Second- and 3rd-row occupants lose valuable leg space with the seats ahead pushed back, but can otherwise be comfortable. Entry/exit tight to the 3rd row, easy to the 2nd.
CARGO ROOM
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | 9 | 9.3 |
Two rows of grocery bags fit behind the 3rd-row seat, which slides and folds for more space. Both 2nd- and 3rd-row seats are heavy, so removing them takes muscle. Fine interior storage.
VALUE WITHIN CLASS
| CE/LE | XLE | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 5.9 |
Sienna is very capable and quite well-suited for family hauling duties. Delivered prices balloon fast with options, but Toyota's typically high resale values and outstanding reliability/durability record can't be ignored.
