Trouble Spots

Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.

Automatic transmission: Automatic transmission may shift harshly from 1-2 or may slip or may feel like it goes into neutral, which is caused by metal chips or clutch debris in the accumulator valve or shift solenoids. (2003-05)

Check-engine light: The oil fill nozzles used at some fast lube shops can bend the baffle under the oil fill hole causing engine noise and a possible check engine light. (2003-04)

Interior trim: The cigarette lighter may come out of the dash and replacing the lighter lamp lens improves retention. (2003-04)

None: The plastic lug nut covers tend to fall off and applying a bit of gasket sealer is the suggested method for retention. (2003-05)

Oil leak: If an aftermarket air filter, that is wetted with oil, is used it can cause drivability and transmission problems should any excess oil get onto the mass airflow sensor. (2003-04)
