Vehicle Highlights
Minor audio-system upgrades are the sole changes of note for 2003 to Chrysler's mainstream full-size sedan. Concorde offers LX, LXi, and Limited models. It shares its underskin design with the Dodge Intrepid and is also the foundation for Chrysler's sporty 300M near-luxury sedan. Concorde seats five, or six with the optional front bench. The LX has a 200-hp 2.7-liter V6, the LXi a 234-hp 3.5-liter V6, the Limited a 250-hp 3.5. All use a 4-speed automatic transmission and have 4-wheel disc brakes. ABS is standard on Limited, optional on the others. The Limited and Luxury Touring Group-equipped LXi models get traction control. Front side airbags are optional on all. The Limited's standard 17-inch wheels are optional for the LXi in place of 16s. For '03, the optional in-dash CD changer holds 6 discs instead of four. Concorde's performance and accommodations mirror those of like-equipped Dodge Intrepids.
COMPETITION
Heading up the field as Best Buys are the Chrysler Concorde and Dodge Intrepid twins. They have real room for six, exceptional road manners, plenty of power, and hefty manufacturer discounts. Toyota's Avalon and Buick's LeSabre are our Recommended choices. Both have room for five and offer a comfortable ride (with modest handling capabilities). If you are looking for towing ability and don't want an SUV, Ford Crown Victoria, with its rear-drive layout and body-on-frame chassis, is an option. Ford has updated it nicely over the years and it comes at a reasonable price.
