ACCELERATION
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 7 | 6.5 |
Strong in both models, though SLS is tuned for around-town muscle, STS for highway response. Transmission is a smooth, quick shifter, though most rivals now use a 5-speed automatic.
FUEL ECONOMY
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 4 | 4.5 |
Test Sevilles averaged 18.6 mpg with lots of highway miles, only 14.8 in everyday driving. Cadillac recommends regular-grade fuel.
RIDE QUALITY
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 8 | 7.1 |
SLS is traditionally plush. We have not yet tested an STS equipped with Magnetic Ride Control.
STEERING/HANDLING/BRAKING
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 6 | 6.7 |
Among the few front-wheel-drive luxury cars--a benefit in the snow belt, but a detriment to agility. SLS's handling is only adequate against European rivals. STS is more athletic, though we haven't yet assessed how Magnetic Ride Control affects handling. Braking is swift and stable, pedal action slightly dull.
QUIETNESS
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 7 | 6.8 |
Quiet, though not Lexus-like. Tire thrum noticed in STS when equipped with the optional W-rated high-performance rubber.
CONTROLS
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 7 | 6.6 |
Modern dash has analog dials and mostly handy, self-evident controls. Haven't yet tested latest navigation system, but the optional satellite radio delivers crisp, high-quality audio provided you have unobstructed access to the sky. Radio display also lists song title and artist. Cabin materials, workmanship tops among domestic brands, though the best imports are better overall.
ROOM/COMFORT/DRIVER SEATING (FRONT)
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 7 | 7.2 |
Plenty of room, but not all drivers can dial in satisfactory positioning. Rear-obstacle-warning system proves useful in parking, but outward vision in lane changes and backing up still hindered by wide rear roof posts and a narrow rear window.
ROOM/COMFORT (REAR)
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 5 | 5.5 |
Standard heated seat a nice touch, but leg room and shoulder width only adequate. Tall riders crowd the headliner. Narrow door bottoms complicate entry/exit.
CARGO ROOM
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 4 | 3.9 |
Ample trunk space and good small-item cabin stowage.
VALUE WITHIN CLASS
| SLS | Class Average |
|---|---|
| 5 | 5.7 |
SLS models furnish the better balance of comfort and performance, but no Seville matches the overall refinement and precision feel of like-priced imports.
