ACCELERATION

LX LXi Limited Class Average
4 6 6 5.6

The base 2.7 V6 is adequate, but feels overworked on highway. New 3.5 replaces a 3.2; it's decidedly stronger, resulting in acceleration on par with best in this class.

FUEL ECONOMY

LX LXi Limited Class Average
6 5 5 4.6

Fuel economy with 2.7 V6 is impressive for a large car: we averaged 26.2 mpg in our tests, mostly on highways. A '99 LHS with the 3.5 averaged 21.6--also in mostly highway driving. Chrysler says all run on regular, though "prefers" 89 octane for Limited.

RIDE QUALITY

LX LXi Limited Class Average
7 7 7 6.7

Soaks up rough roads well. Stable on highway.

STEERING/HANDLING/BRAKING

LX LXi Limited Class Average
6 6 6 5.3

Steers and corners with responsive confidence, though not quite as crisp as sportier Intrepid and 300M.

QUIETNESS

LX LXi Limited Class Average
5 5 5 6.1

Quiet as most similarly priced competitors.

CONTROLS

LX LXi Limited Class Average
6 6 7 5.3

Clear gauges. Large, well-marked climate and audio controls. Interior materials are of mostly good quality; Limited carries over nicer interior appointments of former LHS.

ROOM/COMFORT/DRIVER SEATING (FRONT)

LX LXi Limited Class Average
7 7 7 6.9

Generous height and width, but bench's inboard position is child-sized. Front passenger seat lacks leg room for 6-footers to stretch.

ROOM/COMFORT (REAR)

LX LXi Limited Class Average
7 7 7 5.9

One of few cars wide enough to carry three adults comfortably. Slightly more head room than in Intrepid. Doorways are big, but their shape hampers entry.

CARGO ROOM

LX LXi Limited Class Average
6 6 6 5.8

Amply sized trunk. Opening is wider than Intrepid's, but liftover is high. Rear seat pass-through is handy.

VALUE WITHIN CLASS

LX LXi Limited Class Average
9 9 8 6.9

Distinctive styling, roomy interior, and fine handling make this an impressive value. And Concordes with the 3.5 V6 are quite quick.
