All 911s put down considerable power without drama and have terrific thrust for any need. Test 6-speed Cabrio ran 0-60 mph in 5.6 sec. despite sharp clutch takeup that made for ragged low-rpm launches. Porsche's claim of just 4.2 sec. 0-60 mph for the Turbo with 6-speed manual seems valid. Optional automatic transmission shifts crisply and intuitively, downshifting automatically under hard braking.

Extremely firm, but not jarring despite high-speed tires, handling-oriented damping, and a short wheelbase. Turbo's lower-profile tires are a bit harsher over bumps.

Balanced, confident, grippy and stable despite aft weight bias of rear-engine layout. Quick communicative steering, but test Carrera 2 Cabrio felt a bit wayward in hard takeoffs and strong crosswinds. Turbos handle as if on rails.

Lots of engine and tire noise at highway speeds, but no more than most high-performance sports cars. Cabrio's power soft top seals well, but allows more wind rush than the coupe's solid roof.

Clear, racy-looking gauges, but climate and audio controls are cryptically marked, haphazardly arrayed. Navigation system is overly complicated and frustrating. Cabin materials not ostentatious, but are high-grade.

Low-slung cockpit requires crouch-and-crawl entry/exit for taller occupants, but has good space for them. Seats hug without binding and are long-haul supportive. Good basic driving position, but telescopic steering wheel should tilt too, and aft visibility difficult.

Not much. A weekend's soft luggage fits in back, but the front compartment takes only a couple of gym bags. No glovebox, just a center console and some small bins for modest interior storage.
