ACCELERATION
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 4 | 3.6 |
Spirited for a minivan--about 9 sec 0-60 mph in our tests--but transmission is slow to downshift, hampering midrange pickup.
FUEL ECONOMY
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 4 | 3.9 |
We averaged 18.6 mpg with lots of highway miles, 16.8 mpg in hard city/freeway driving. Honda recommends premium fuel but says regular is OK, though with a slight loss of power.
RIDE QUALITY
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 6 | 4.8 |
Light loads allow big bumps to jolt and produces marked wheel patter on pavement breaks. Adding some weight allows Odyssey to absorb most rough stuff with fine comfort and control.
STEERING/HANDLING/BRAKING
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 5 | 4.6 |
No sports car, but smooth and balanced for a minivan--arguably the best in this respect. Steering slightly heavy at low speeds, easy and communicative otherwise. Brakes deliver swift, stable emergency stops.
QUIETNESS
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 5 | 4.6 |
Engine generally smooth and quiet. Wind noise low, but tire rumble and minor body drumming on rough pavement.
CONTROLS
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 5 | 5.7 |
Typical Honda, but column shifter tends to go past Drive when moving from Park, and also blocks the driver's reach to some audio controls. Optional navigation system worthwhile, but takes time to learn. Nice interior decor and finish, but one test model had an unwanted rattle.
ROOM/COMFORT/DRIVER SEATING (FRONT)
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 5.9 |
Spacious on wide, supportive seats. Handy center tray table folds for walk-through access to the rear. No-strain entry/exit.
ROOM/COMFORT (REAR)
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | 8 | 6.7 |
Plenty of room on 2nd-row buckets that can slide inward to form a bench. The 3rd-row bench is more for kids than adults and not easy to access. Sliding side doors provide large entryways, but EX's standard power doors are snail slow.
CARGO ROOM
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 10 | 9.2 |
Okay with the 3rd-row seat up, generous with it down, cavernous with all seats stowed. A covered well ahead of the 2nd-row seats stows the standard space-saver spare, but won't take a full-size tire.
VALUE WITHIN CLASS
| LX | EX w/nav. sys. | Class Average |

A solid Best Buy: roomy, refined, well built, reasonably priced, and boasting top-of-class performance. Demand still strong, however, so you'll likely pay full sticker or more.
