Honda's best-selling model offers LX and upscale EX coupes and sedans with 4-cyl or V6 engines. There's also a price-leader 4-cyl DX sedan and, new for '01, a Value Package sedan with popular features. All have subtle styling changes. ABS is standard on V6s and 4-cyl EXs, optional for the automatic-trans. 4-cyl LX sedan. Front side airbags available on all. Also new for '01: sensors that deactivate right-side airbags if an occupant is too small or out of position. Additionally, V6 models add standard traction control--a first for Accord--and EX V6s now include automatic climate control, power passenger seat, and in-dash CD changer.

COMPETITION

Perennial Best Buys Honda Accord and Toyota Camry continue to shine with refinement, model diversity, and comfort. Both come in coupe and sedan forms, offer economic 4-cylinder or sporty V6 power, have room for four adults, and are reasonably priced.

Recommended models include the smooth Chevrolet Impala, the import-flavored Chevy Malibu, the sporty Nissan Maxima, surprising Olds Intrigue, and the good-looking Pontiac Grand Prix. All come with V6 power, offer lots of standard equipment, and have pleasing road manners that will suit a variety of driving styles.
