ACCELERATION
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 6.1 |
Strong with any model, though SLSs are tuned for around-town muscle, STS for highway response. Transmission is a smooth, quick-shifter.
FUEL ECONOMY
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 4 | 4.7 |
Test Sevilles averaged 18.6 mpg with lots of highway miles, only 14.8 in everyday driving. Cadillac recommends regular gas, but says fuel above 87 octane will provide better performance.
RIDE QUALITY
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 6 | 6.4 |
SLS is traditionally plush. STS has a firmer suspension and aggressive tires that don't smother bumps as well.
STEERING/HANDLING/BRAKING
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 7 | 6.3 |
Among the few front-wheel-drive luxury cars--a benefit in the snow belt, but a detriment to agility. SLS's handling is only adequate against European rivals. STS is more athletic, but still no match for the best. Braking is swift and stable, pedal action slightly dull.
QUIETNESS
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 6.7 |
Quiet, though not Lexus-like. Tire thrum spoils the STS when equipped with the optional Z-rated high-performance rubber.
CONTROLS
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 6 | 6.1 |
Modern dash has analog dials and mostly handy, self-evident controls. Optional navigation system inconveniently incorporates some radio functions on its touch screen. Interior materials are among the best in any domestic car, but fit and finish are not quite up to the top imports'.
ROOM/COMFORT/DRIVER SEATING (FRONT)
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 7 |
Plenty of room, but the optional air-bladder Adaptive Seats aren't effective. Wide rear roof posts and a narrow back window impede visibility.
ROOM/COMFORT (REAR)
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 5 | 5.1 |
Leg room and shoulder width only adequate. Tall riders crowd the headliner. Narrow door bottoms complicate entry/exit.
CARGO ROOM
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 4 | 4 |
Ample trunk space and good small-item cabin stowage.
VALUE WITHIN CLASS
| SLS | STS | Class Average |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 4 | 4.7 |
SLS models furnish the better balance of comfort and performance, but no Seville matches the overall refinement and precision feel of like-priced imports.
