ACCELERATION

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
2 4 3.6

The 3.3 V6 provides better overall go-power than the base 4-cylinder or 3.0-liter six, but still isn't up to the task with a heavy passenger/cargo load.

FUEL ECONOMY

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
4 4 3.9

In our tests, one 3.3-liter Voyager averaged 19.2 mpg with lots of highway driving. Another averaged a more representative 15.8 mpg.

RIDE QUALITY

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
4 6 4.9

Grands smother bumps a bit better than regulars, but any Voyager offers a comfortable ride and good highway stability.

STEERING/HANDLING/BRAKING

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
3 4 4.3

All Voyagers drive like much like large cars, and regular-length models feel almost agile. All models have light, precise steering and stable cornering with modest body lean.

QUIETNESS

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
4 5 4.5

Wind noise is prominent at Interstate speeds and road roar is evident to rear passengers. The V6s are loud only under full throttle, while the 4-cylinder is audibly busy most all the time.

CONTROLS

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
6 6 5.7

Voyager's roomy, well-designed interior features supportive chair-height seats, great all-around visibility, and a conveniently laid-out dashboard with large gauges and simple controls. An exception is the slightly complicated process needed to program radio-station presets.

ROOM/COMFORT/DRIVER SEATING (FRONT)

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
7 7 6

There's plenty of head and leg room in front for two large adults. Low door sills ease entry/exit, and an optional driver-side sliding door makes it easier still.

ROOM/COMFORT (REAR)

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
6 8 6.4

There's also plenty of head and leg room for middle-row riders, but third-row accommodations are best left to the junior-high crowd. Shoulder and hip room are generous all around.

CARGO ROOM

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
9 10 9.3

With all seats in place, regular-length models don't have much space for more than a single row of grocery bags. Built-in "Easy Out" rollers assist with moving the middle and rear bench seats, but they weigh 80-100 pounds, so lifting them in or out is still a 2-person job.

VALUE WITHIN CLASS

Base reg. length Grand SE, 3.3 V6 Class Average
7 9 5.8

Despite ever-stiffer competition, Voyager and Caravan remain Best Buys on the strength of sound design and high owner loyalty. Voyager does a fine job of anchoring this popular line.
