Vehicle Highlights

Breeze production halted in early calendar 2000 as part of the phase-out of the Plymouth brand. This 4-door midsize sedan had been the low-priced version of the Dodge Stratus and the luxury-oriented Chrysler Cirrus, though Cirrus has added a 4-cylinder model aimed at replacing the Breeze in Chrysler dealerships.
The last of the Breezes come in a single trim level with a 132-horsepower 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine. A 150-hp 2.4-liter four is available at no extra cost. Stratus shares these 4-cylinder engines, but also offers a V6. Breeze's 2.0 engine teams with a manual transmission and is not available with automatic. The 2.4 comes only with automatic. Antilock brakes are available, but Breeze doesn't offer the 4-wheel disc brakes that are optional on Stratus and standard on Cirrus. Safety features include standard child seat rear anchorages. Breeze has performance and accommodations similar to those of comparably equipped Stratuses.

COMPETITION

Perennial Best Buys Honda Accord and Toyota Camry continue to shine with refinement, model diversity, and comfort. Both come in coupe and sedan form, offer economic 4-cylinder or sporty V6 power, have room for four adults, and are reasonably priced. Recommended models include the smooth Buick Century, the import-flavored Chevy Malibu, the sporty Nissan Maxima, surprising Olds Intrigue, and the good-looking Pontiac Grand Prix. All come with V6 power, offer lots of standard equipment, and have pleasing road manners that will suit a variety of driving styles. If you are looking for something a touch bigger without spending a whole lot more we suggest the Budget Buy Chevy Impala. It's the largest car in this class, has a powerful V6, and doesn't cost any more than the others.
