2000 Mitsubishi Montero: Overview

With sales waning, Mitsubishi's "senior" sport-utility vehicle for 2000 adds an up-level Endeavor option package, as well as some previously optional equipment to the base model. Standard on Montero are antilock brakes, air conditioning, and rear jump seats affording 7-passenger capacity. Newly standard this year are a security system with remote keyless entry, a CD player, and a roof rack. The sole drivetrain remains a 3.5-liter V6, automatic transmission, and Mitusbishi's "Active Trac" 4-wheel drive, which is usable on dry pavement.
The new Endeavor package combines many items previously offered in the optional Value, Luxury, and All Weather packages, including wood interior trim, leather upholstery, heated front seats, power driver's seat, heated mirrors, and power sunroof.

COMPETITION

Though this segment has cooled somewhat with the rise in fuel prices, it's still one of the hottest. Our Best Buy is the Ford Expedition. We love the size, comfort, and power of this big SUV. Hot on its heels are the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. We were very impressed with these vehicles initially, and when we have more time to fully evaluate them we expect them to be Best Buys as well. For a few more bucks you can get the highly recommended Toyota Land Cruiser. Its high price is the only thing holding back this refined and drivable SUV.
