ACCELERATION

LXi JXi Class Average
4 4 4.7

While they don't have the low-speed muscle of cars powered by larger V6s, Sebrings offer good acceleration from a stop and adequate passing response on the highway.

FUEL ECONOMY

LXi JXi Class Average
5 5 5.4

A test JXi convertible averaged 21 mpg. Coupes should do at least as well.

RIDE QUALITY

LXi JXi Class Average
3 5 5

Adequately damped suspensions give a mostly smooth, absorbent ride at the expense of some rocking and vertical bounce over humps and crests.

STEERING/HANDLING/BRAKING

LXi JXi Class Average
6 5 5

Not sports-car agile--ragtops especially--but safe, predictable front-drive road manners.

QUIETNESS

LXi JXi Class Average
4 4 5

Engines are audible and don't sound that pleasing, and excess road noise makes a long trip tiring in any model.

CONTROLS

LXi JXi Class Average
5 6 6

Dashboard designs differ, but the convertible's gets our nod for its more accessible audio controls.

ROOM/COMFORT/DRIVER SEATING (FRONT)

LXi JXi Class Average
4 5 5.2

Adult-size space in both body styles, plus generally comfortable seats. Seat belts in convertibles are conveniently integrated into the seat itself.

ROOM/COMFORT (REAR)

LXi JXi Class Average
2 3 4.1

Two adults is the practical limit in back in any Sebring, and things are snug even then. Unusually, convertibles have more usable aft leg room than coupes. Entry/exit is the usual 2-door stoop-and-scrunch.

CARGO ROOM

LXi JXi Class Average
3 2 4.5

Not great in either body type, but at least coupes have a usefully lower load lip and larger trunk opening than ragtops.

VALUE WITHIN CLASS

LXi JXi Class Average
2 3 5.3

Pleasant road manners and competitive pricing keep these cars interesting, but what sells them is their attractive styling: Both look richer and racier than their sticker prices would suggest.
