Vehicle Highlights
A sunroof is newly optional on the base model for 2000, and Concorde gets suspension changes designed to provide a quieter, smoother ride.
Concorde is similar to the Dodge Intrepid and is the foundation for Chrysler's luxury LHS and sporty 300M. It has standard seating for five and optional seating for six. The base LX model comes with a 200-horsepower 2.7-liter V6. The LXi gets a 225-hp 3.2-liter V6. Both use automatic transmission. Antilock brakes and traction control are optional on the LX, standard on LXi.
The sunroof was previously optional only with LXi trim. Also for 2000, the LX exchanges standard 15-inch wheels for the same 16-inchers used by the LXi. Among other changes are two exclusive LXi additions: standard vehicle-speed-sensitive variable-assist steering and an optional 4-disc in-dash CD changer. Concorde's performance and accommodations mirror those of like-equipped Intrepids.
COMPETITION
This segment has been hardest hit by the huge popularity of sport-utility vehicles. Just a few years ago there were more than 12 cars in the segment and now there are just seven. Heading up the field as Best Buys are the Chrysler Concorde and Dodge Intrepid twins. They have real room for six, exceptional road manners, and plenty of power.
Toyota's Avalon and Buick's LeSabre are twoRecommended choices. Both have room for five and offer a comfortable ride (with modest handling capabilities). If you are looking for towing ability or don't mind having a rear-drive car, then we recommend you take a look at the Ford Crown Victoria. With its rear-drive layout and body-on-frame chassis it's a dinosaur in this class, but Ford has updated it nicely over the years and it comes at a reasonable price.
