Trouble Spots

Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.

Air conditioner: The A/C makes strange noises and the company will replace the expansion valve and/or one of the A/C lines with newer designs that prevent the problem. (1998-99)

Ball joints: A buzzing or snapping noise from the front suspension is caused by a problem with the lower ball joint. (1998)

Brake noise: If not properly adjusted, the parking brake rattles when driving over bumps. (1998)

Brake noise: The front brakes make a rattling noise unless new antirattle springs are installed. (1998)

Hard starting: The engine may not start if another transponder is on the same key ring as the original immobilizer key (1998-01)

Vehicle noise: If the cross bars of the roof rack are installed improperly, wind noise (howling sound) occurs above 25 mph. (1998)
