Trouble Spots

Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.

Antenna: Problems with the radio-antenna ground connection corroding causes static, especially on AM stations.

Check-engine light: The check-engine light may come on because of a problem with the fuel vapor emissions system. (1996-97)

Dashboard lights: The check-engine light may come on indicating a problem with the evaporate-control system which is fixed by replacing several vacuum hoses. (1997)

Electrical problem: Using the wrong cigarette lighter or accessory plug can easily damage the socket.

Transmission noise: The automatic transmission makes a clattering noise when shifted into neutral or park from reverse requiring a special check-ball to be installed in the valve body. (1997)
