Powertrain Options and Availability
All LS 400 sedans had the same powertrain: a 4.0-liter, dual-overhead-cam V8 engine, developing 260 horsepower and driving a 4-speed automatic transmission. In 1998, Lexus added variable-valve timing to the V8, increasing horsepower and torque by 30. Also, a 5-speed manual transmission was made standard.
