Trouble Spots

Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.

Air conditioner: A problem with the air conditioner compressor causes loud noises from under the hood when the A/C is running. A revised compressor corrects the problem. (1994-95)

Automatic transmission: Slow transmission upshifts in cold weather are caused by ice in the vacuum modulator line. (1994-95)

Automatic transmission: If the transmission does not engage after the vehicle has been sitting for awhile, a check ball kit is available to prevent torque converter drain down. (1994-97)

Doors: Door locks tend to freeze unless they have been replaced with new lock cylinders. (1994-96) If the doors are hard to lock or unlock, the door lock bezel could be causing interference. (1994-95)

Hard starting: It may be impossible to start the engine in temperatures above 80 degrees (F) because the ignition switch expands and jams. (1995)
