Trouble Spots

Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.

Check-engine light: If vacuum hose to EGR valve doesn't have enough slack, check-engine light may come on without drivability issues. (1995)

Climate control: Intermittent climate control operation can be caused by a loose wire on the control center. (1993-94)

Cruise control: The cruise control may not maintain speed due to a defective vacuum servo unit. (1995)

Oil leak: On any model with the V6 engine, the rear main seal may leak. (1993-94)

Rough idle: Dirty throttle body bore and throttle control module commonly cause rough or low idle. (1998)

Steering noise: A clunk from the front when the steering wheel is turned is caused by a heat shield on the left motor mount that may be striking the bracket. (1993-94)

Wipers: The wiper blades skip or jerk across the windshield, which may damage the blades or scratch the windshield. (1993-96)

The dollar amount includes the cost of the part(s) and labor (based on $50 per hour) for the typical repair without extras or add-ons.
