After skipping the 2007 model year entirely, Porsche unwraps the second generation of its midsize SUV for 2008.

Though front and rear styling has been updated, the big news is under the hood. For 2008, Porsche introduces Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), its version of direct injection.

Returning are the V6-powered Cayenne, and V8 Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. For 2008 the Cayenne moves from 3.2-liters to 3.6, and to 290 horsepower from 247. A new 4.8-liter V8 replaces a 4.5, and produces 385 horsepower in the Cayenne S (up 45 for 2008), and with a turbocharger 500 (a gain of 50) in the Turbo. 

Porsche hinted that an even more powerful Turbo S was in the works.

The V6 Cayenne will start at $43,400, the Cayenne S at $59,700, and the Turbo at $93,700. All prices include destination. Porsche says the 2008 Cayenne will arrive in dealerships this March.
