General Motors' Pontiac division debuted high-performance "GXP" models of its 2008 G6 midsize coupe and sedan and Torrent midsize SUV at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. G6 and Torrent GXP have versions of GM's "high feature" 3.6-liter V6 engine. G6s have 252 horsepower; Torrents have 260. Torrent GXP shares its basic design and powertrain with the recently announced 2008 Chevrolet Equinox Sport. Both engines pair with a six-speed automatic transmission. GM's Stabilitrak antiskid system with traction control is standard on all GXP models. Torrents are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. G6s are front drive only. Both vehicles have sport-tuned suspensions and standard 18-inch tires.

Both models retain Pontiac's signature red-on-black instrumentation, but gain sport bucket seats with additional side bolstering. G6 GXPs are available with two-tone leather upholstery. Torrent GXPs have glossy "piano black" interior trim. Pricing wasn't announced, but the company said both vehicles are scheduled to reach dealers this fall.
