Hyundai expands its SUV lineup to three vehicles with the 2007 Veracruz. Capping a lineup that includes the compact Tucsan and midsize Santa Fe, Veracruz takes Hyundai a notch higher in size and price. Billed by the maker as a full-size luxury SUV, Veracruz slots between the Honda Pilot and Saturn Outlook SUVs in wheelbase and overall length.
Power for Veracruz comes from a 260-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 shared with Hyundai's luxury-oriented Azera sedan. A six-speed automatic will be the only transmission offered. As planned, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions will be available. Buyers will be offered a choice of three trim levels: Entry-level GLS, sporty SE, and top-of-the-line Limited.
Inside, a standard two-place third seating row gives Veracruz room for up to seven passengers. Standard safety features include antilock brakes, an antiskid system, front side airbags, and three-row curtain side airbags. Hyundai says Veracruz will arrive in dealerships this summer and start under $30,000.
