Honda gave Detroit audiences a preview of the next-generation Accord at the 2007 North American International Auto Show and an on-sale date of fall for its production counterpart. Honda reps claimed that this concept defines Honda's future design direction and that the concept coupe was an accurate representation of the next-generation Accord.

The last redesign of the automaker's best-selling car was for the 2003 model-year. This 8th generation Honda marks the 32nd year Honda has been selling Accord in the U.S. Since its inception, Honda has sold nearly 10,000,000 units of its flagship vehicle.

The automaker hinted that the next-generation production coupe will be aimed more toward the under-30 market segment. According to the manufacturer, 39 percent of coupe buyers are under 30, while only 12 percent of Accord coupe buyers are under 30.

New exterior design cues include a more sculpted lower body, long hood, fastback roofline, and overall more-aggressive look. While engine specs weren't divulged, Accord will be powered by a new V6 with Variable Cylinder Management, a new-for-2008 fuel saving system that shuts off unneeded cylinders. Look for the production version in dealerships this fall.
