Posting sales increases every year since its introduction in 2002, the Cadillac CTS has been a success for General Motors. To maintain that momentum, GM introduced the redesigned 2008 CTS at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. This premium midsize sedan sports freshened sheetmetal and is about one inch longer in wheelbase and two inches wider than previous models. Standard on all CTS models sold in North America is GM's "high feature" 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 258 horsepower. A 300-horsepower version of the 3.6-liter V6 that uses high-pressure direct injection is optional. Unlike other engines that employ direct-injection technology, the CTS V6 can run on regular-grade fuel with no loss in performance or fuel economy (other direct-injection engines require premium fuel). Both engines are available with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is a new option for '08. CTS cars sold outside North America have a standard 210-horsepower 2.8-liter V6 engine.
The interior is new, sporting a look that's different from the revamped cabin of Cadillac's SRX SUV. The emphasis is on attention to detail and the use of higher quality materials than in previous models. Upper instrument and door panel surfaces are cut and assembled by hand. Interior trim includes genuine Sapele wood or satin metal. Pricing was not announced, but the '08 CTS is scheduled to arrive in showrooms this summer.
